The University of Bonn attaches particular importance to the international orientation of its degrees. The aim is to prepare students for an increasingly international job market and to offer them courses, especially in English but also in other languages, in order to promote a high level of language proficiency. The international orientation of the Law degree is reflected in the support it provides for stays abroad, particularly within the framework of the Erasmus programme, for a large number of international students and for the opportunity to take part in a wide range of foreign-language events. The range of services includes, amongst other things, a technical foreign language education in English (FFA programme) and the opportunity to participate in Moot Courts. In addition, the Department of Law currently maintains more than 60 partner universities in the world.
§ JurLecture: Invitation to the lecture by Guest Professor Alan Vogelfanger, LL. M. from Buenos Aires on 23.04.2024
We would like to warmly invite you to another lecture in our lecture series "§ JurLecture". The special feature of this series is that each lecture is delivered by an international guest scholar from the Department of Law.
The next lecture in the § JurLecture series will be given by Prof Alan Vogelfanger, LL. M. from the University of Buenos Aires. He is currently a guest scholar at the Institute of International Law. The lecture, which will be held in English and entitled "Recent developments in the Inter-American Human Rights System regarding climate change", will take place on 23 April 2024 at 18:30 in Lecture Hall A in the Faculty of Law and Economics (Juridicum).
Below a short teaser: Climate change litigation is increasing at both national and international levels, as an additional tool to achieve the changes we need to protect the environment and secure a better future for all of us. The Inter-American Human Rights System has always pushed the legal barriers forward and its bodies are considered as world-wide standard-setting institutions. The lecture will elaborate on the recent developments in the Inter-American Commission and the Inter-American Court regarding climate change. It will analyze the Court's Advisory Opinion 23 (2017) on the environment and human rights, and the Commission's Resolution on Climate Emergency (2021), its first document that focuses exclusively on climate change. Furthermore, we will look into the recent case La Oroya vs. Peru, concerning the contamination of the environment as a result of mining activities and its impact on the right to health, and also into the future Advisory Opinion on Climate Change, requested by Chile and Colombia, which is expected to be released in 2025.
