The “Green Cards” are designed to assist with source-specific literature searches.

Approximately 16,000 index cards summarize, for many legal and non-legal ancient textual sources, which Roman law essays and monographs mention and discuss the respective sources.

The index cards were initiated by Prof. Dr. Rolf Knütel decades ago and are continuously updated and supplemented by student assistants; newly published literature is constantly added. Nevertheless, it is unfortunately not possible to record every newly published work on a card, so the literature listed on the cards is not exhaustive. Efforts to digitize the cards have been underway for some time, but have not yet been implemented—in part due to a lack of funding. 

The Green Cards are available for use by anyone interested. To prevent the loss or disorganization of the cards, please do not handle the card index boxes yourself; instead, contact our student assistants (Room 2.004; email). They will gladly provide a scan or copy of individual cards upon request and assist in deciphering the short citations.
