Examinations Office Law and Economics

Examinations Office Law and Economics

The Examinations Office is part of the Administrative Office and is responsible for managing all examination-related matters of the program. For this purpose, it works closely with the Law and Economics Examination Board.

Please send us any requests regarding examinations and documents required for the issuance of certificates via email or by mail.

Please include a brief note in your message explaining what you need.

We also try our best to advise you in English but be conscious that the bachelor's degree program (lectures and examinations) is offered almost entirely in German.

Document Center

Our Form Center provides you with all the documents relevant to your studies, available for download at a glance.

Exam withdrawal

The following general withdrawal rules apply:

When withdrawing from exams, a distinction must be made between withdrawing within the registration/withdrawal period (withdrawal) and withdrawing after the registration/withdrawal period has ended.

Withdrawal

Students may electronically withdraw from exams they have already registered for without providing a reason until the end of the respective registration/withdrawal period.

Exam Withdrawal

After the deadline has passed, students may withdraw from an exam only for a valid reason.

The examinee must

  1. immediately, unequivocally, and unconditionally declare their resignation, and apply in a timely manner for formal recognition of a valid reason, and
  2. immediately state the valid reason for the withdrawal and provide all necessary evidence of that reason.

Your withdrawal must be submitted to the office of the Law and Economics Examination Board.

While not required, the templates available in the Document Center may be helpful.

To fill out the forms digitally, please download the document and then complete it in Adobe Reader or Preview.

Alternatively, you can also print out the forms and fill them out by hand.

Please send us the completed form immediately by mail or drop it in mailbox No. 35 at the Juridicum!

Withdrawal for health related reasons

If a candidate withdraws from an exam for health reasons after the exam has begun and the exam questions have been distributed, the candidate must consult a doctor on the same day to confirm their inability to take the exam. If necessary, the candidate must visit the on-call medical service or emergency department.

Since October 2016, a medical certificate confirming the inability to take the exam has been sufficient. It is no longer necessary to submit a certificate containing medical findings or a diagnosis. Using the appropriate template from the Form Center makes it easier for both you and the doctor to issue the certificate.

Please note, however, that a certificate of incapacity for work (“yellow slip”) is not sufficient.

If the medical certificate is not immediately available, please submit the application immediately and follow up with the certificate as soon as possible.

Withdrawal after the exam has begun is generally not permitted once the examinee can view the exam results on the electronic exam portal or has learned of them by other means.

Regarding the further course of the proceedings

The Examinations Office will notify you regarding the acceptance of your reason for withdrawal. Shortly after your documents have been received in full, you can check on BASIS to see whether the excused withdrawal has been correctly recorded. For technical reasons, the exam result will be displayed as “failed” in your exam account. Under the “Grade Report” view, you can verify that the justified withdrawal with a medical certificate (AT or KR) has been recorded.

A different procedure applies to exams in the Department of Political Science (Economics):
For technical reasons, the exam result will be displayed as “registered” in your exam account. Under the “Grade Report” view, you can verify that the justified withdrawal with a medical certificate (KR) has been recorded.

If an excused withdrawal is not approved, the examination process continues as usual, and you will receive a notification from the Examination Board by mail regarding the rejection of the withdrawal.

If no exam performance has been completed or submitted by the deadline, the exam will be graded as “unsatisfactory (0 points)” in accordance with general principles (unexcused absence).

The Examination Board/Committee

The Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science is responsible for organizing and administering the bachelor’s degree examination.
He is assisted in this by the Law and Economics Examination Board. The Examination Board makes all decisions regarding examination regulations.

The general duties of the Examination Board are carried out by the Office of Academic Affairs, which serves as the secretariat for the Examination Board.
