Studying in a non-Erasmus country - Institutional exchange

Please note: Applications

You can find information on applying on the page ‘Studying Abroad – General Information and Applications’.

Overview

Please note the universities highlighted in yellow on our list of partner universities (only available in German) regarding institutional exchanges.

In addition to the department’s own partnerships, there is also the option of studying abroad through the university’s partnerships. The “Global Exchange Programme” offers opportunities for study abroad placements at partner universities worldwide.

The International Office is your point of contact for applications, candidate selection, etc. They conduct their own application process with their own requirements. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the International Office directly.

Please note: The application deadlines for these programmes differ from those of the department.

Switzerland has not been part of the Erasmus programme since 2014. Instead, there is a specially established funding programme called the Swiss-European Mobility Programme (SEMP).

The Faculty of Law has a partnership with Kutafin Moscow State Law University. The university was founded as an academy in 1939 and is one of Russia’s most prestigious law schools.

Note: Due to Russia’s offensive war against Ukraine, the partnership has been suspended indefinitely.

Once you have received confirmation, you will need to arrange the following yourself:

  • Visa
  • Vaccinations (if required)
  • Insurance (particularly international health insurance)
  • Accommodation

Funding

      • In non-European countries, there is no automatic financial support upon acceptance of a place at university, as is the case with the Erasmus programme.
      • In Switzerland, funding is provided through the SEMP (see ‘3. Switzerland’ above).
      • However, under the faculty exchange programme, no tuition fees are payable at the partner universities (see list).
      • We recommend that you apply for the Promos scholarship, which is awarded by the University of Bonn specifically for study abroad placements for students of the University of Bonn.
      • In addition, there are further funding opportunities available through BAFöG, scholarships from the organisations for the promotion of gifted students, and the DAAD.
