Prof. Hense has been an adjunct professor in the Department of Law at the University of Bonn since 2015 and teaches courses in ecclesiastical law and state church law.

Podcast "Die Edenhoferin“
In a conversation with Prof. Dr. Annette Edenhofer, Prof. Hense discussed, among other things, the principle of neutrality and current developments in (state) church law— including the example of religious education (in Berlin).
New Publications on Cemetery and Funeral Law
As of the end of 2025, two new publications in the field of cemetery and funeral law are worth noting. A brief overview of recent amendments to funeral law was published in HERDER KORRESPONDENZ (HK 11/2025, 31–33). In addition, the Handbook of Cemetery and Funeral Law (eds. Christoph Brüning/Tade M. Spranger) was published for the first time, in which Prof. Hense was able to provide an in-depth examination of aspects of this legal field pertaining to religious law and state church law.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the Research Group on Worldviews in Germany, Prof. Hense delivered a keynote address on aspects of state church law at the conference “Toward a Secular Society.”
