Leon Philipp is 21 years old, graduated from Gymnasium Odenthal in 2022, and started studying law at the University of Bonn in October of the same year. During his legal studies, he developed a profound interest in criminal law and therefore chose the focus area of criminal sciences and completed an internship at the public prosecutor’s office in Bonn. Earlier this year, he gained first insights into the world of moot courts by participating in a voluntary seminar in medical law that included one. This experience strengthened his will to carry out moot courts to a greater extent. Leon previously visited the lecture in international criminal law, where his interest in the subject was sparked from the very beginning. Consequently, participating in the IBA ICC Moot Court Competition presents a good opportunity to dive deeper into the topic. Being captain of his tennis team as a junior gave him valuable experience in team work, which he is looking forward to contributing to the team. He is grateful for the opportunity to be part of this year’s IBA ICC Moot Court team, to learn more about international criminal law and to improve his English skills.

Irina Gill is 20 years old and currently studies law in her fifth semester at the University of Bonn. She decided to study law because she was particularly interested in ethics and political philosophy during her last two years at school. During her first semesters, this interest was reflected primarily in criminal law. Irina’s studies are supported by a scholarship from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation. At the end of her first semester, she started working as a student assistant for Prof. Häcker at the Institute for International Private Law and Comparative Law, where she especially enjoys learning more about international law and its differences from German law. Irina is a part of the university choir, the Collegium musicum Bonn (CMB), and for a year now she has been a member of the board of the CMB. She considers working in a team both enriching and exciting and is eagerly looking forward to being a part of the IBA ICC Moot Court team 25/26, learning more about international criminal law as well as improving her legal English.

Jakob Friedrich Löw, 23, is a fifth-semester law student at the University of Bonn. He began studying philosophy at the University of Stuttgart before turning to law to combine analytical reasoning with practical engagement in social and ethical issues. A year of voluntary service in Athens, supporting teachers and students from diverse backgrounds, sparked his interest in international criminal law and strengthened his sense of social responsibility. Alongside his studies, Jakob worked as a student assistant at the Faculty of Law’s International Office and now at the Academic Advisory Service, supporting fellow students with academic questions. An internship at the Regional Court of Bonn and complementary courses in US Law and Mediation broadened his understanding of law and structured problem-solving. As a student representative, football coach, and referee, he learned to mediate between different perspectives, make decisions, and foster cooperation within a team — experiences he looks forward bringing to the ICC Moot Court.

Mia Jütten is a 21-year-old law student in her fifth semester at the University of Bonn. Spending a high school in New Zealand and completing a voluntary service in Krakow allowed her to experience different cultures and broaden her perspective, which sparked her interest in international contexts. While still in school, she took part in the Leiden Model United Nations in 2021, an experience that strengthened her enthusiasm for international discussions and politics and encouraged her to pursue these interests within her legal studies. During her first semesters at university, she developed an interest in criminal law, which she was able to deepen through an internship at the Regional Court of Aachen, gaining valuable insights into the judicial process and the practical application of law. In addition, she completed the training program of the Refugee Law Clinic Bonn and now works there as a student assistant, engaging with cases related to migration and human rights. Mia is eager to bring this knowledge and these experiences to the moot court, looking forward to meeting new people, working together, and taking on new challenges.

Janis Behrens graduated from CJD Gymnasium Königswinter in 2021 and has always harbored the dream of becoming a lawyer. Before starting his law studies at University of Bonn, he studied economics for three semesters. He is currently studying law in his sixth semester. In his first few years learning about national law, Janis quickly found interest in his curriculum, particularly in the field of criminal law. Thus, he pursued an internship at the criminal law firm Rosenkranz, Timm, Mameghani to gain some more practical insights, before then discovering this opportunity to work with International Criminal Law. Besides his studies, he also works as a fitness instructor and participates in the university’s Honors Program. He is looking forward to acquiring practical legal experience during the IBA ICC Moot Court Competition as well as working with students who share his interests and is excited to compete alongside the university’s team on an international level.
