Welcome to the Study Group Support!

Study Group Support

The Study Group Support is responsible for handling all inquiries regarding the registration for study groups (Arbeitsgemeinschaften).

Please note the following important information:

  • Study Group Registration: Registration is exclusively online and must be completed independently via BASIS. Only FFF students, Erasmus students and students admitted via the replacement procedure (Nachrücker:innen) should contact the Study Group Support team directly.
  • Changing Study Groups: During the registration period, you can make changes to your registration yourself at any time via Basis. Subsequent changes outside the registration period by Working Group Support are generally not possible and are only permitted in cases of particular hardship.

Registration Information Study Groups

Registration is possible throughout the entire booking period; the “first come, first served” principle where speed plays a role, is no longer used. Only after the end of the booking period will places be allocated by lottery and based on the priority assigned in Basis. Here you will find detailed instructions and further information on registering study groups.

Registration periods summer semester 2026

The registration periods for the 2026 summer semester have ended!

If you wish to drop a study group at a later date, you may do so on your own in Basis by the end of the lecture period, July 24, 2026.

What should you do if your application is rejected?

If you have only received rejections for a study group, this is likely because you did not specify enough priorities in your registration or because demand for the study group you selected was too high. However, rest assured that you are entitled to a spot in a study group, though not necessarily to a specific time slot of your choice. Please feel free to contact study group Support!

FAQ

Instructions on how to register for study groups via BASIS can be found on the BASIS-Wiki for students.

In working groups, the methodology of case study in civil law, public law, and criminal law is taught and practiced on the basis of the content presented in the lectures. Your study group will be marked as “passed” by the working group leaders at the end of the semester, provided that you have attended at least three-quarters of all sessions (§ 5 II 2 StudO 2023).

Successful participation in the study groups is a prerequisite for writing the course-related term papers! Students in the state examination program in law require at least one successfully recorded working group in each area of law (civil law, criminal law, and public law) in order to be allowed to write the corresponding term papers. As part of the basic studies, a term paper on BGB AT and a term paper on Criminal Law III or IV must be written (a prerequisite for participation in the term paper in criminal law is, for example, successful participation in the working group “Criminal Law I” or “Criminal Law II”). During the main study period, the term paper on the advanced exercise in public law must be written (the prerequisite for participation is a successfully completed seminar certificate for “Constitutional Law I,” “Constitutional Law II,” or “Administrative Law”).

For students studying a minor subject, successful participation in a study group is a prerequisite for various written examinations which, according to the respective module plan, require participation in a study group.

Every student has the right to a spot in a study group, but not in a specific one. If you could not get a spot in the regular registration period, please contact the AG Support. We will appoint you a spot in a study group that still has remaining capacities.

For organizational reasons, a switch between students is not possible.

  • during the registration period a switch by cancellation and re-registration is possible on your own via BASIS.
  • after the registration period a switch is generally not allowed. It is only possible in special hardship cases. Commuting or conflicts with a part-time job do not constitute as a special hardship case. The program of law is a full time study programm that must be completed in site. Therefore, you must remain in the study group you have chosen or inform the Study Group Support team and your tutor of your withdrawal from the group.

The automatic synchronization between Basis and eCampus does not occur immediately, but only on certain dates and after the start of the semester, so no action is required. Please be patient. If you are still unable to access eCampus after a longer period of time, please contact the Study Group Support.

If there are no more places available in every study group within a subject, individual participation capacities may be increased. However, please register for your courses independently via Basis as long as there are still groups with free places. There is no guarantee that you will later be assigned to a preferred group.

Please contact the Study Group Support team with your desired group. We will take care of it.

The registration for study groups is not possible, if you have already participated successfully.

No! The permission of the tutor does not replace the official study group registration on BASIS. Tutors have no influence on the participants of their study group.
