She obtained her doctorate (DPhil) at the University of Oxford in 2007 with a comparative thesis examining structural questions on the interface of contract law, property and the law of unjust(ified) enrichment. Between 2001 and 2008, she held a Fellowship by Examination at All Souls College, Oxford.

She qualified for German legal practice at the Higher Regional Court of Munich (OLG München) in 2011. Subsequently, she worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance and taught as lecturer at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (awarded the Therese von Bayern Prize 2015).

In 2016, she took up the Statutory Chair in Comparative Law at the University of Oxford, where she became Director of the Institute of European and Comparative Law in 2018.
