Working Group European Criminal Law 

The European Criminal Law Working Group aims to promote an open exchange of ideas between academia, politics, and practice, and to create a framework for presenting and discussing developments and challenges in European criminal law.

The working group focuses in particular on the activities of the Council of Europe and the European Union in creating a European area of freedom, security, and justice. This topic will be explored at annual meetings through reports from practitioners, academic analyses, and discussions of current legal policy challenges.

The working group will reflect on the role of criminal justice in European integration. It aims to make a constructive contribution to overcoming the common challenges of criminal justice in Europe. This concern is driven by an awareness of the major challenges in criminal and security policy that must be overcome while preserving and developing European fundamental rights, common legal principles, and an awareness of the identities of the member states.
