Workshop "Introduction to writing term papers and word processing for lawyers"

Naturally, writing the first term paper causes problems for many students. There is often a great deal of uncertainty about how the paper should be written in terms of form and content. For this reason, the Student Advisory Service offers a podcast on the workshop ‘Introduction to Writing Term Papers’, in which the formal requirements of a term paper are explained. As a supplement to the workshop, we would like to provide you with these guidelines as an initial orientation aid to make it easier for you to start writing term papers. We also offer a ‘Word processing for lawyers’ tutorial on using Microsoft Word.

You will also find a guide to writing term papers on the pages of the law seminar. This guide is primarily concerned with research in online databases.

The workshop ‘Introduction to writing term papers’ provides a general overview of the formal requirements for a term paper. The video tutorial is divided into three parts. You can also find the presentation for the workshop here.

Einführung in das Schreiben von Hausarbeiten Teil 1 (Einleitung, Formalia, Literaturarten, Literaturverzeichnis, Recherche, Abkürzungsverzeichnis)

Einführung in das Schreiben von Hausarbeiten Teil 2 (Inhaltsverzeichnis, Gliederung, Fußnoten, häufige Zitierfehler, Tipps zur inhaltlichen Arbeit)

Word processing for lawyers

You must write at least three assignments before the first examination. The examiner requires a digital version of the term paper in a document when you hand it in. But how do you create documents that contain both Roman and Arabic page numbers?

This question and others arise at the latest shortly before submission. Even if the content of the paper is decisive for the grade: proper formatting can have a significant impact on the result. On the one hand, it is about making a ‘good impression’, on the other hand, the formatting serves the clarity of an academic paper. As you are often pressed for time at the end of a term paper phase, it helps to have dealt with formatting issues in advance so that you can concentrate on the content.
