Dr. Maria A. Gwynn, MJur (Oxon) joined the Institute for Public International Law in October 2018. She is currently on leave following her appointment as a member of the Governing Council of ITAIPU by decree of the President of Paraguay.
Her areas of interests are international law and international relations, focusing on diverse areas such as shared natural resources (especially international water law); international treaties; renewable energy and climate change; the international investment framework; international dispute settlement mechanisms, international arbitration; and international sports law.
She was previously an Oxford-Princeton Global Leaders Fellow (2016-2018): Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Blavatnik School of Government and SCR Research Associate, University College, University of Oxford (2017-2018); and at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University, US (2016-2017).
She also currently holds positions as (i) International Arbitrator of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) (ii) Senior Research Associate at the Global Economic Governance Programme, Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford and (iii) Professor of the Strategic Studies Institute of Paraguay (iii) Representative to the Paraguayan National Climate Change Commission on behalf of ITAIPU.
