Raphael Schäfer ist seit März 2024 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter im Rahmen des Projekts German Practice in International Law am Institut für Völkerrecht. Er studierte Rechtswissenschaften an der Juristischen Fakultät der Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg mit Schwerpunkt Völkerrecht, wo er mit einer völkerrechtshistorischen Arbeit promoviert wurde. Sein Rechtsreferendariat absolvierte er am Landgericht Heidelberg. Am Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches öffentliches Recht und Völkerrecht arbeitet er als Schriftleiter des interdisziplinären Journal of the History of International Law. Momentan ist er MJur candidate an der Universität Oxford.

Raphael Schäfer has been a research assistant at the Institute of Public International Law since March 2024, supporting the German Practice in International Law project. He studied law at the Ruprecht Karls University of Heidelberg, specialising in international law, where he also received his doctorate with a thesis on the history of international law. He completed his legal clerkship at the Regional Court of Heidelberg. At the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, he works as editor of the interdisciplinary Journal of the History of International Law. He is currently an MJur candidate at the University of Oxford.
