  • Registration for the final examinations of the intermediate examination and the specialisation area examination in the Department of Law takes place via an electronic registration procedure.
  • Admission to the intermediate examination or specialisation area examination: This takes place at the beginning of the semester in which the first partial examinations are to be taken (once) in paper form. Instructions for taking the final examinations:

  • Processing time for the mid-term exams: 120 minutes each (the exams start at s.t.)
  • The legal texts used may not contain any personal annotations, handwritten notes or underlining. The marking of laws in the collections of laws with stickers of any kind or self-adhesive notes is not permitted. It is the responsibility of the examinee to bring the relevant legal texts with them. The university cannot provide any missing legal texts. Manipulated legal texts and other unauthorised aids (e.g. "cheat sheets", diagrams, registers) may neither be used nor brought to the workplace. Mobile phones and smartwatches must be switched off during working hours, must not be worn on the body (e.g. when going to the toilet) and, in case of doubt, should be handed in to the supervisor or placed at the front of the lecture theatre. Even an attempt to cheat can be penalised under examination law in accordance with Section 11 (5) sentence 1 ZwPO.
  • Due to admission controls, please arrive at all examination dates approx. 15 minutes before the start of the examination.
  • Please bring an official photo ID and your student ID to the examination date.
  • In the event of illness on the day of the examination, cancellation of the examination must be declared immediately. Further information on the cancellation procedure and forms that can facilitate the procedure can be found here.
  • Please refer to the notices in the Juridicum and the homepage of the Law Examination Board for any last-minute changes to room allocations.
  • Students can raise objections to the assessment in writing to the examiner within two weeks of the announcement of the examination result (so-called remonstration). You must provide comprehensible reasons as to why you consider a reassessment of the examination to be necessary. In doing so, you must raise substantiated objections, i.e. you must specifically state the points in which you believe the assessment of certain examination performances is incorrect. The examiner will inform you of the result of the remonstration.
  • The examination results of the intermediate examination and specialisation area examinations will be posted in the Juridicum and on the internet. The remonstration period for students abroad begins on the day the results are published on the internet. If the results are sent by post, the postmark of the last day of the remonstration period applies.

Notes on the realisation of term papers:

The subject of a term paper is usually the preparation of a legal opinion. In it, the candidate must analyse case law and literature and develop their own solution. The legal opinion must meet academic standards. It must therefore be an independent piece of work prepared using scientific methods! This is not the case if two or more candidates work together. Papers written by several candidates must therefore not be almost identical in terms of structure and focus. Similarly, identical text modules or passages are not permitted. There is also a lack of independent work if third parties are asked for advice in order to adopt their tips and suggested solutions, in particular if internet forums are used or other websites are used to solve the case without citing sources. Finally, it is also inadmissible to copy verbatim text passages from secondary literature without making this clear with inverted commas and footnotes.

If, in exceptional cases, ideas and arguments from other sources are used verbatim, they must be placed in inverted commas and the author of the ideas must be identified. If texts are adopted analogously, you must also refer to the author in a footnote.

Violations of the aforementioned requirements may be categorised as attempted cheating, which will result in the examination being graded as unsatisfactory (0 points). Even an attempt to cheat can be penalised under examination law in accordance with Section 11 (5) sentence 1 ZwPO.
